A few weeks ago, I asked our designers to put together a list of their favorite world flags. This is the combined super-ranking: LogicTrail’s highly authoritative “Top 10 Flag Designs in the World.” (Please, don’t go starting any wars over it.)
Honorable Mention: Naury (pictured below), Canary Islands, S. Vietnam, Zambia, Libya, Jamaica
10. Sweden
Great color; great simple yet unique take on the cross. Way to go, Swedes.
9. Seychelles
Points for boldness, geometric ingenuity, and being right-on-the-edge of awful. I guess you can take design risks if you’re an archipelago smack in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
8. Albania
So. Intimidatingly. Awesome.
7. Nepal
What?!!? You go get it, Nepal. (This is about as maximalist as our design team gets.)
6. Ukraine
It’s all about color.
5. Japan
Stark, simple, beautiful.
4. Bahrain
What is it about Bahrain’s flag? Is it how it hovers between abstraction and representation? (Triangles? Mountains on their sides? Medieval torture device?) Is it that it manages to evoke a flag fluttering in the wind in 2D? Whatever it is, this one sparks our imagination.
3. Catalonia
Says “we’re Spain, but with more stripes.” Solid.
2. Somalia
Yes.
1. Switzerland
The Helvetica of flags. Switzerland, congrats: you’re our winner.
